The Story of Tantara

Tantara takes its name from a trumpet’s call, heralding a moment of attention.
Our menu is crafted from the food of Bengal, a region that spans East Bengal, now Bangladesh, and West Bengal in India. Though divided by borders, the cuisine remains united, defined by balance, restraint, and patience. Distinct from broader Indian fare, it is familiar yet unmistakably Bengali.
Inspired by the cabin cafés of Old Calcutta, places of conversation, comfort, and quiet ritual, we opened Tantara in tribute to our father. He arrived in the United Kingdom in 1963 and went on to build his own restaurants, guided not by showmanship, but by care. From him, we learned that hospitality is not performance, but welcome itself.
At Tantara, dishes are chosen with intention. The menu is focused, precise, and expressive, allowing each flavour its own voice. This is food meant to be shared, lingered over, and remembered.
This is Tantara.
